History Of New Windsor Il.

New Windsor Il., platted in1857 and organized in 1869. It has been told that William Petrie, a Scot, named the new town after Windsor Castle. This may be true but not, as some think, because Windsor is in his home country of Scotland.  Windsor Castle is an official residence of the royal family of Great Britain and is located just a few miles (a one day march) from London, in England. Later, it became New Windsor when another Windsor, Illinois was discovered. Even though the name is used and maintained for the village, the official name is still the Village of Windsor.
